In Colorado there are three different types of health insurance contracts:

• Individual Health Insurance - This is a contract between an insurance company and an individual. These policies are underwritten based on the medical history and any pre-existing conditions. The individual and NOT a company must pay premiums. • Small Group Insurance - These are companies with two to 50 employees. An individual may be considered a Business Group of One if certain criteria are met. These policies are guaranteed so long as all information on the business and its employees can be verified by specific tax and/or financial documents. Rates are predetermined by the insurance companies and some groups may qualify for a discount of up to 25 percent of the base rate, or a 10% rate up.
